How do you put into words the end of an era?
Stable Gate Deli opened its doors 34 years ago this summer, and has been a point of pride for our family since it’s inception. Making sure you provide a community with the best quality and taste is no small feat, yet it is exactly what we were dedicated to doing all these years. Whether it was for our local regulars, grabbing their breakfast sandwiches on the way to work, or for our vacationers, scrambling to get their group sub orders in in time for the boat, we made sure every item was made, wrapped and bagged to perfection- and never soggy! Though it may seem trivial, we saw the value in perfecting the post-pool ice cream sundae, achieving the optimal toasting on a grilled cheese and attaining the ideal ratio of meat to toppings on all of our sandwiches.
However, it wasn’t just our family behind the counter that cemented Stable Gate Deli as a regional favorite year after year, but the many loyal and long-standing employees we amassed over the past three decades. We are sure many of you have memories of John laying out your early morning newspapers, or catching up with Kathy on register while picking up your coffee and pastries. When you were in the store or over the phone, it was most likely Cala who took your orders, and it’s Mandy you can thank for our impeccably spotless grill room. Jeff and Matt kept the cooler stocked and Kelly, the namesake of our famous sandwich: Kelly in the Deli, would literally run from working at the stables all day to help out behind the counter when we were too busy to keep up with demand. We think back fondly on the summers we had Andrew, Tessy and Makayla in line on the Sandwich station, a truly All-Star team. And there are countless memories of so many more wonderful employees who dedicated their time and summers to us, and to all of you we are forever grateful! We hold our Stable Gate Deli crew in our hearts as family.
As for our customers, we say thank you, thank you thank you! We cherished those of you who came year after year. From the firefighters to the family reunioners, it was a pleasure to see you return, remember your orders, and catch up over-the-counter. When we were slammed and out of everything, the friendly faces of repeat customers certainly kept us going. From fireworks to 40s, worms to wiffle balls, sunscreen to subs, and quite literally everything in between, we always sought to make your stop in seamless, and we did so with pride all the way until the end. We knew it was in the small details that an experience feels special, and there is no place more special than Lake George. It was a really fun run, and more importantly, it was an honor to serve you these past 34 years. Cheers to all of you who walked through our doors!
